Standing up for human rights and the environment should not be deadly! Every day, defenders are killed and their lives are threatened. These people are putting themselves at risk to fight for principles that we often take for granted in the United States.
Whether they are fighting for social equality, justice, or environmental and indigenous rights, we need to protect their vision of the future. For 40 years, PBI has been providing life-saving security monitoring and protection that allows defenders to carry on with their work.
2021 is a special year for Peace Brigades International, it is our 40th year anniversary!
To celebrate this important milestone in our history, we are creating a year-long fundraiser to help strengthen our capacity to provide support to threatened human rights defenders and social leaders in the countries that we serve.
With your support, we can ensure that PBI-USA is financially prepared for this year and the years to come, so we can celebrate many more years making space for peace and protecting the voices of social leaders, human rights defenders, and land and environmental defenders, whose work makes this world a better, more just place.
Your gift for this campaign will help us:
- Continue to provide assistance to our field projects;
- Increase our recruitment efforts for field volunteers;
- Continue to advocate for change and protection of defenders through national and international avenues;
- Build support networks to protect social leaders;
- Fund our 40th Year Anniversary Campaign events.
If you share our vision of a world where individuals and communities can defend their fundamental human rights without fear of violence, then stand with us to protect defenders by making a donation to our campaign.
Celebrate this milestone with us!
We are planning a series of events as a part of this campaign, focusing on amplifying the message of the defenders that we accompany through virtual events, including a screening of the PBI documentary, 'La Sangre de La Tierra' on International Water Day (March 22nd) and a webinar discussion featuring land and environmental defenders on Earth Day (April 22nd).
In addition, we are working on our first ever Virtual Orientation Weekends with the help of our friends at PBI-Canada. These webinars will be a great opportunity for individuals who are interested in becoming frontline volunteers with PBI and will help us continue to directly contribute to the frontline physical accompaniment of defenders.
Please, consider making a donation today to help our 40th-year Anniversary Campaign. Thanks for your support and solidarity!
